Businesses in California received 42,016 SBA loan approvals worth $30.8bn in FY2021 to FY2025, 34,808 of them 7(a) loans and 7,208 504 loans.
That is 40.8 approvals for every 1,000 business establishments in the state, against 41.0 nationally, and 12.3% of all approvals in the country (1st of 54 states and territories).
In FY2025 there were 11,044 approvals totalling $6.60bn, up 16% on FY2024. The median 7(a) approval over the five years was $250K and the median 504 approval $884K.
329 lenders had at least one approval in the state; by number of 7(a) approvals the most active were U.S. Bank, National Association (4,216), Wells Fargo Bank National Association (1,990) and Northeast Bank (1,713).

Charge-off rates use only loans approved in FY2010–FY2021, at least five fiscal years ago, and count disbursed loans SBA records as charged off. Loans are listed under the lender they are assigned to today. Establishment counts are from the Census Bureau's County Business Patterns 2023, which leaves out most farms, government and businesses without employees.
